About Costcodle

Costcodle is a free daily Costco price guessing game. Every day at 00:00 UTC, everyone gets the same Costco item and six guesses to land within 5% of its game price. Each guess prints a line on a receipt that says Higher or Lower, and Close when you are within 25%. There is no account and no app to install, and your games and stats stay in your browser. Costcodle is an independent fan game. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Costco Wholesale Corporation.

What you can play here

The daily puzzle is on the home page, along with a quick guide to the rules. Costcodle Unlimited deals past items one after another for practice, and it never touches your daily streak. Once a puzzle has ended, its product, game price and winning range go on the Costcodle answers page. Today's answer is never published there. The Costcodle blog covers how Costco prices work and how to win in fewer guesses, starting with our strategy guide.

Where the puzzles and prices come from

The puzzles, their order and their numbers follow the original Costcodle game. We keep a versioned copy of that game's public puzzle list: 3,399 products, each with its name, game price and image. A game price is the snapshot saved in that list. It is not a live Costco price, and it doesn't say which warehouse, date, tax or promotion it came from, so treat it as the answer to the puzzle and nothing more. We never replace a game price with a price from another source.

How dates work

Every puzzle has a fixed UTC date here: Costcodle #1122 is October 15, 2026, and each UTC day after that moves to the next number. A new puzzle starts at 00:00 UTC, and a game you began before midnight can be finished until 00:10 UTC. The original game works out the day from your browser's clock, so close to midnight the two sites can show different puzzles.

Who makes Costcodle

Costcodle is built and maintained by horushe93, as an independent project. It is run by neither Costco nor the makers of the original Costcodle game.

Open source

The rules engine that scores every guess is open source under the MIT license. You can read it in the costcodle-rules repository on GitHub or install the costcodle-rules package from npm. The numbers in our blog posts come from the same rules, played against every puzzle that has ended. Costcodle is built with Astro and Vite, and has donated to Vite through Open Collective.

Your data

Costcodle has no accounts and no ads, and the site loads no analytics script. Your current game, past games and stats are saved in your browser's local storage. When a game ends, your browser can send an anonymous result (the puzzle number, a win or a loss, and the number of guesses) so the Stats window can show how everyone did. You can switch that off in the Stats window at any time. The privacy policy has the details.

Feedback

Found a broken image, a typo on an answer page or a bug in the game? Tell us on Bluesky. Problems with the rules engine itself can go to the issues of the costcodle-rules repository. If you enjoy the game, you can support it on Ko-fi.
