Costcodle has no accounts, no public leaderboard and no ads. This page describes what the site does today.
What stays in your browser
Your current game, finished games and your own statistics (games played, win rate and streaks) are saved in this browser's local storage so you can come back later. They are never built into a profile on our side. Clearing your browser data, using a different browser or device, or private browsing can remove or hide that progress.
What the game sends
To play, your browser asks the site for the daily puzzle, starts a game and submits each guess. The reply includes a signed progress token that your browser keeps and sends back with the next guess, so the site can check your guesses without storing a game for you.
Anonymous results
When a game ends, your browser can report the result so the Stats window can show how everyone did on the same puzzle. This is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time with the "Share my results anonymously" switch in the Stats window. Turning it off stops new reports from your browser, and you can still see everyone's results.
The report is the signed progress token of your finished game. The site checks that the game was really played, then stores only the puzzle number, a random ID that was generated for that one game, whether you won or lost, how many guesses it took and the time the report arrived. We don't store your IP address, user agent, cookies, account or any device or browser ID with it, and the random game ID isn't linked to you or to any other game. Because nothing in a stored result identifies you, we can't look up or delete an individual result later.
The stored results are used only to show totals and the spread of guesses for each puzzle. Nothing is shown until enough games have been reported for that puzzle.
Hosting logs
The site runs on Cloudflare. Like most hosted sites, requests are handled by Cloudflare's infrastructure, which may record technical request details such as IP address and user agent for operating and protecting the service. We don't add an analytics script, and we don't use this page to promise a particular retention period for those logs.
Sharing
When you share a result, it is copied or sent by the tool you choose. The shared text shows your guesses and the puzzle number without revealing the price.
